Poinsettias - Christmas Flowers.

Beautiful Christmas flowers made from recycled materials: Plastic bottles. An environmentally safe project. (12/22/2007)

 

Poinsettias (Euphorbia pulcherrima) are flowers of Mexican origin, native to the Pacific coast of the United States, some parts of central and southern Mexico (including the Mexican Pacific coast), and a few localities in Guatemala. They are named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Ambassador to Mexico (technically first U.S. envoy to Mexico)¹, who introduced the plant in the U.S. in 1825.

 

Using just spray paint, hot glue and recyclable plastic bottles, you can make this craft and obtain this nice decoration for Christmas.²

 

Bill of materials:

Spray paint (Red, Green and yellow)

Cutter or knife (is better to use a knife).

Hot glue.

Four empty recyclable plastic bottles. (Coke)

a paperclip.

 

Instructions:

Wash the bottles, remove labels and dry it. Cut the bottleneck and the top part from each bottle.

 

 

Cut two bottles to make the petals as the blue lines indicates. The bottle should have five petals. Folding each one at the center may help to cut each petal symmetrically. Repeat the procedure to make small petals with the second bottle. See photos.

 

 

Cut one bottle and divide it by four to make the leaves. See right photo.

 

Cut the last bottle about two inches from the bottom. Cut strips as the blue lines indicate. After finish, fold one strip in, one out and repeat. See photos.

 

 

Paint each part using: Red for the petals, Green for the leaves and yellow for the center of the flower.

 

 

Glue each part together using the hot glue. First glue the petals together (the small one on top). Glue the center to the petals and glue the leaves to the petals. After the glue cool off, glue a paper clip to the base so you can hang it anywhere.

 

 

Your Christmas flower is ready!
